What is an ADR Driver?
If you are driving a vehicle which is carrying dangerous goods then you must, according to the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Act, hold an ADR licence.
Until January 2007 this Act only applied to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, but it is now a requirement to hold an ADR licence if you are driving an HGV or a 3.5 tonne vehicle such as a Transit van.
Some examples of situations where a driver is required to hold an ADR licence would be include:
A road tanker containing fuel or other hazardous goods
A vehicle carrying a tank containing hazardous goods
A vehicle carrying hazardous goods in bulk
A vehicle carrying hazardous radioactive material
A vehicle carrying packages that contain hazardous goods
